The currency in Uganda is the Ugandan Shilling, symbolized as UGX. The Ugandan Shilling is subdivided into 100 smaller units called cents. Banknotes in circulation come in denominations of 1000, 2000, 5000, 10,000, 20,000, and 50,000 shillings, while coins are available in denominations of 50, 100, 200, and 500 shillings.

The currency is controlled and issued by the Bank of Uganda, the central bank of the country. Travelers to Uganda are advised to exchange their currency to Ugandan Shillings upon arrival for ease of transactions within the country.
